Get back to a normal rhythm
Ah vacations, this space-time rift where we even forget the schedules. Late bedtime, delayed lunch, approximate nap... In order to set up a routine and rest before September starts again, delay your whole day by 15 minutes until you return to your normal schedules, especially bedtime. Finally, the first few days of recovery, do not hesitate to put baby to bed earlier, because the nursery, like the school or the nanny, is tiring. We even know some babies who leave the nursery are washed out and... need to take a short nap.
Take the time
Whether it is for adaptation to the nursery or the childminder, you have surely planned the necessary time. Our advice? Don't underestimate the start of preschool either. Again, if you can, set your day down in order to accompany your child quietly in the morning, without stress. Repeat the operation after school, Junior will be happy to see you again... and you too! Come on, let's go for the first evening tunnel of the school year.
Plan for the care of your child
An exceptional meeting, a stagnant train, your 18:00 yoga session... Who will pick up your child tonight? Plan a babysitter, a trusted neighbor, your family, an older brother in advance... even for the unexpected.
Read back-to-school books
Reading is a bit like music, it softens hearts. Prepare for the big day and let Junior understand what awaits him, with great stories to read before going to sleep. Here are a few books to add to your library:
- See you tonight by Jeanne Ashbé
- T'choupi is going back to school.
- Mom at school, by Éric Veillé and Pauline Martini
In addition, explain to your child what awaits him, how his days will unfold, stay positive in your support towards this first school year.

Get her things ready
The day before, prepare his things and his backpack with spare things, his stuffed toy, his diaper with your scent, his transitional object. For adults who are starting school and the small section, the watchword is learning to be independent. Wear clothes that are easy to take off (forget suspenders, belts and overalls...), show him how to wash his hands, put on his shoes or coat... Obviously, your child will be assisted by the ATSEM at school, but the idea is to teach him to do it alone, little by little. In fact, we identified a small game to learn morning and evening routines at home. One more step towards autonomy...
Zen parent, zen baby
We know that going back to school is often very stressful for parents. The first few hours you leave your baby in the nursery or in the arms of the childminder, such as the first drop off at school. Swallow your tears and keep your anxiety to yourself! While both of these feelings are normal, it's best to keep a cool head and not frighten your child. Is baby crying? Don't panic, once the door is closed, children usually quickly find their smile again.
